Wednesday, May 31, 2007 - 11:00pm Lieberman Has John McCain Disease In order to support his pro-war philosophy, Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) traveled to Iraq and declared that progress is being made. Of course, Mr. Lieberman was accompanied by a team of armed soldiers and was wearing a bullet-proof vest and helmet. Despite the rising death toll of American soldiers, Lieberman had the gall to state that he sees "significant progress" since his last trip. Apparently, he's not aware (or chose to ignore) that this month was the third deadliest ever for U.S. forces and the worst in over two years.
Joe's high-priced photo-op was not greeted warmly by many soldiers, who confronted him and asked when they were getting out of Iraq. He didn't really have much of an answer for them. However, Senator Lieberman knows that he was getting out of Iraq right after his picture was taken.
The next time any politician thinks about going to Iraq, they need to reconsider and stay home. Thug politicos like Joe Lieberman simply want a few camera shots to show their constituents that they care. The problem is that they don't care. They care about getting re-elected, nothing more.
Senator Lieberman has joined John McCain in the disgraceful category. McCain did virtually the same exact thing only a month ago. These Senators are wasting the precious few resources of the military every time they pop in. The military protects them and takes troops off their regular duty. The presence of politicians makes the soldiers' job even more difficult.
Lieberman and McCain are simply promoting their own agenda when they go to Iraq. The troops are a distant second in their minds. I don't know how they sleep at night. If they show up again, let's drop them off (unprotected) in downtown Baghdad so they can determine first-hand how much progress we are making. Tuesday, May 29, 2007 - 11:25pm Obama Offers Universal Healthcare...With Higher Taxes! Just when I thought I liked the guy. Barack Obama has offered up a plan for universal health care coverage for all Americans. Sounds great, huh? The only catch is that he wants all the rich people to pay for it by raising taxes on them. Of course, the wealthy already pay for their own health care, but Obama wants them to pay for everybody else too.
This is so typical of the Democratic Party. Their answer for everything is to tax the rich. How about they stop spending the taxpayers' money? Barack Obama is proving everything we already knew about the party. Rather than find programs to cut and stay within a budget, Barack is taking the easy way out by promising to tax the people who already pay the most taxes.
If you really want to create universal health care, then do so by cutting spending, not raising taxes. I have a few suggestions for Mr. Obama if he really wants to provide health care to millions of Americans.
First and foremost, there should be massive Tort reform in this country. One reason healthcare costs are so high is because the Democrats have created a litigious society where anybody can be sued. This has driven up malpractice insurance, which in turn has been passed on to Americans paying for healthcare.
Second, cut federal spending. I hear there is an expensive war going on in Iraq that is costing the government a couple billion dollars per week. Have the cajones to end the war and you will free up more than enough funds to fund universal healthcare. (Obama estimates his plan would cost $50-$65 billion per year)
Third, make illegal immigrants pay taxes or go home. If you get 12 million illegal immigrants to pay taxes every year, that would raise billions upon billions of dollars. If those 12 million folks paid taxes like the rest of us, it would go a long way into repairing our healthcare system.
Who knew it would be so simple to create universal healthcare without raising taxes? My solution is more equitable and makes a lot more sense. What are the chances Barack Obama or any of the Democrats introduces any of those suggestions? I'm betting zero! Monday, May 28, 2007 - 11:10pm Patriots' Marquise Hill, 1982-2007 Memorial Day weekend was marked with a tragic accident, as New England Patriots football player Marquise Hill was found dead in Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana after an apparent drowning. Hill was involved in a jet-ski accident with a friend late on Sunday night and was unable to get to safety.
My deepest condolences go out to the Hill family. Saturday, May 26, 2007 - 2:15pm The Real Hillary Described in 2 New Books The frontrunner in the 2008 presidential election, Hillary Clinton, is ripped apart in two new books that describe her as a cold, calculating person with questionable ethics and judgment. One book is entitled "Her Way: The Hopes and Ambitions of Hillary Rodham Clinton" and the other is "A Woman in Charge." To insiders, neither book exposes any new information about Hillary, as they already knew she was a coldhearted shrew, but now the public will get a closer look at her.
Hillary Clinton's ethics have already come under fire for her role in an insider trading scandal, but she was somehow able to escape jail time. Her judgment is also at issue for not reviewing the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on Iraq before giving George Bush authority to invade the country. Hillary has stubbornly refused to call her vote a mistake, even though all evidence points to that fact. Anti-war activists on the left have demanded she apologize for the vote, but she has declined.
Clinton is the only candidate taking fire from both the left and the right. It's amazing that she is still ahead in polling, considering how many people (myself included) hate her. I hope that people pay attention this time around and cast a vote for someone else. They need to realize how corrupt and power-hungry she is. Not only is she corrupt and self-righteous, she in not even intelligent. The biggest vote she ever made in her political career was a huge mistake. She further amplifies that mistake by not realizing that it is one.
Like most politicians, Hillary Clinton is putting her career and ambitions ahead of everything else, including the troops. Rather than trying to find a solution to bring our boys home, she continues to demonstrate that she only cares about finding a way to win the presidency. We can do better. Monday, May 21, 2007 - 10:45pm Senate Preparing to Grant Amnesty to Illegals The left and the right have hashed out a plan for illegal immigration in the Senate, but very few are happy about it. The bill was put together behind closed doors because no politician wants to take credit for it. The primary issue is amnesty, but there are other problems as well. There are already 17 Senators who support the bill that includes amnesty. Another 32 waiting to see which way the wind blows with the public. Only 17 others completely oppose it.
These politicians in Washington believe that they either have to grant amnesty to illegals or deport all twelve million of them. They apparently aren't intelligent enough to come up with any alternatives.
How about they secure the border of the United States first and then worry about what to do with the illegals that are here? Last time I checked, they hadn't figured out how to stop the flow of illegals into the country. Why even bother addressing the issue of amnesty if they can't solve the border issue?
One way or another, the Democrats and the Republicans are going to screw this up. They always do. Amnesty will happen because both sides have already been bought and paid for by the business sector...and like I said, big business wants illegals. Wednesday, May 16, 2007 - 12:00am The World Just Got A Little Bit Better! Jerry Falwell is dead! Thank God! The man was a bigoted, racist monster. It's a shame it took him this long to croak. Is that a little harsh? Well that's just too damn bad. Jerry Falwell was a terrible human being. He promoted violence and hatred toward gays, lesbians, and many others. He was a raving lunatic who has thankfully left this earth.
If you aren't familiar with what Jerry Falwell had to say, let me give you a synopsis. After the 9/11 attacks on America, he said:
Apparently, Mr. Falwell wanted to use the deaths of 3,000 Americans on 9/11 to take a few swipes at gays and other groups. Jerry Falwell also stated that AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals.
He believed in racial segregation as well. He referred to the Civil Rights Movement as the Civil Wrongs Movement, that the Lord would not have approved of the Brown vs. Board of Education decision in 1954, and he was critical against the sanctions imposed on the Apartheid government in South Africa. He also proclaimed that when the Antichrist comes, he "must be, of necessity, a Jewish male."
The point here is that there are evil people in this world. One of them is now dead. I think we should all celebrate. Tuesday, May 15, 2007 - 7:45am Deputy AG McNulty Falls, But Gonzales Remains It seems that everyone is being taken down in the Justice Department except for the one ultimately responsible. The Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty, second in command to Alberto Gonzales, has resigned over the U.S. Attorney firings case. McNulty has served only 18 months in the position, but is stepping down amid stories of a divide between him and his boss.
Paul McNulty is no choir boy to be sure, but he is being made the scapegoat by the administration for their unethical behavior. It remains to be seen whether Gonzales will ever have to step down, but at this point it looks like he will escape and remain above the law. Saturday, May 12, 2007 - 1:15pm GOP Appoints Scandal-Ridden Congressman Representative Ken Calvert (R-CA) was appointed by Republican leaders to the coveted House Appropriations Committee to replace Congressman John Doolitte (R-CA), who is under an ethics investigation. Unfortunately, Congressman Calvert has more ethical issues than the man he is replacing. House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) was the decider in appointing the morally challenged Calvert to the position.
Rep. Calvert was caught by police with a prostitute in his car in 1993. By the looks of him, I assume he would have to pay for it. He initially ignored the police and attempted to flee the scene. Much like Bill Clinton, Calvert proceeded to publicly lie about it and cover up. He was also named one of the "20 Most Corrupt Members of Congress" by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics.
Fortunately his wife came to her senses and divorced him around the same time as his BJ in the car. However, the moronic voters in the 44th District of California have not been as intelligent. That particular district includes the cities of Riverside, Corona, Norco, San Clemente, and Rubidoux. These voters have continued to re-elect Calvert to Congress. He is currently in his seventh term. He received 60% of the vote in the last election and has received as much as 74% of the vote in 2000. How pathetic!
Even conservatives are disgusted by John Boehner's appointment of this scumbag to the House Appropriations Committee. A leading conservative blog, RedState.com has already criticized the selection.
How on earth can we take the GOP seriously when they are led by the worst elements of their party. Surely there are some decent Republican Congressmen among the 201 that are members of the House. I know there is a lot of dirt, but how hard is it to pick a good one? Tuesday, May 8, 2007 - 7:15pm Senate Pushes For 35 Miles Per Gallon With gasoline prices moving over $3 per gallon with no end in sight, the U.S. Senate has decided to approve a bill that would raise fuel economy standards on automobiles. The bill requires automakers to produce cars that average 35 miles per gallon by the year 2020. Two Republicans and a number of major auto manufacturers opposed the bill.
The current average for cars on the road is about 21 miles per gallon, so to get to 35 mpg in less than fifteen years is a steep challenge. With sales of hybrid cars increasing, the average is getting better, but many of those cars do not even reach 35 mpg. None of the hybrid SUV's have a combined (city/highway) mpg that high. There are seven hybrid sedans for sale in 2007 and only four of them clear the 35 mpg threshold. The Toyota Prius, Honda Civic, Nissan Altima, and Toyota Camry are the only hybrids that clear that figure.
Even though most of these hybrids don't get more than 35 mpg, they do greatly improve upon the fuel economy standards in the United States. I applaud the Senate for setting benchmarks for automobile manufacturers, but they also need to be realistic. Pushing the companies too far too fast could do more harm than good. The Senate would be better served by increasing the tax credit for buyers of electric and hybrid cars.
It is still more expensive to buy a hybrid car rather than the gasoline counterpart, even after taking into account the future fuel savings. Therefore, consumers do not have any financial incentive to buy the hybrid. If the Democrats that control Congress would increase the tax incentive to where it is more cost effective to purchase a hybrid car, sales would increase dramatically and fuel economy standards would rise. What are the chances that they do that? Sunday, May 6, 2007 - 10:15pm Deadly Day for U.S. Soldiers in Iraq Eleven American troops were killed in Iraq on Sunday, marking one of the deadliest day ever for the United States since the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Six soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb northeast of Baghdad, two Marines died from a bombing in Anbar province, two others died in separate attacks in Baghdad, and another died in a non-combat incident. The deaths raised the total number of Americans killed in Iraq to 3,373.
These incidents today further illustrate the point that the situation in Iraq is getting worse for American troops. The bombings on Sunday did not occur in just one location. There were four separate attacks inside and outside of Baghdad. The United States simply has no answer for the car bombings that continue to claim the lives of Americans.
This is yet another reason why we should leave Iraq immediately. In over four years, the situation on the ground has not improved nor will it anytime soon. Why risk more American lives every day when we already know that Iraq will be just as bad next year as it is this year?
Why do these politicians continue to hedge and stall and make excuses as to why they will not bring our boys home? At this point, the blame no longer lies solely on the White House. Democrats and Republicans in Congress also have blood on their hands. None of them have put the troops above their own personal interests. Wednesday, May 2, 2007 - 8:30pm Bush Continues Lying About Iraq For the last time, Iraq had nothing to do with the attacks on 9/11. Will someone please tell this idiot otherwise known as the president? He is making the bogus statement again, hoping to get the Democrats off his back. He has, of course, already admitted that there was no connection, but I guess that didn't play as well to his maniacal base.
