Wednesday, March 21, 2007 - 9:15am Call His Bluff, Subpoena Them All George Bush made it clear yesterday that he is trying to hide something. After having eight U.S. Attorneys fired for political reasons and then having his people lie about it, he now wants to protect his aides by threatening to not allow them to testify under oath. Bush would use a little known rule called executive privilege that lets him stop Congress from questioning his people.
Unfortunately for Bush, there are many steps to go through before he's able to use executive privilege. By the time the process gets to him, the issue will be so escalated that the public will demand testimony from his thugs. Front and center is the hatchet man himself, Karl Rove, who was partly responsible for firing these attorneys with no cause. Also needing to testify is Alberto 'Torture Boy' Gonzales and Harriet Miers.
The Democrats need to finally get some cajones. They have let the Republicans run all over them for the last six years. Now that they actually have subpoena power, they need to use it! They should already be investigating the last six years of transgressions by this administration, but they are too cowardly to go down that road.
Issue the subpoenas and let the chips fall where they may. There is already fracture in the Republican party over this and other issues. One Republican Senator and a Congressman have already called for the resignation of Torture Boy. More will surely follow as the public outcry becomes louder.
The Democrats need to ignore the threats of George Bush and continue with the process of forcing Rove, Gonzales, Miers, and anyone else they deem necessary to testify under oath. If they don't do it now, they never will. Political Critic - political blogs, conservatives, liberals, democrats, republican, blogs, political opinion. |
