Monday, March 12, 2007 - 9:30am Democrats Want Gonzales Fired for Canning Attorneys Attorney General Alberto "Torture Boy" Gonzales, who has made a living attempting to legalize torture, is now under scrutiny for firing leading U.S. Attorneys. Prominent prosecutors throughout the system were dismissed as a result of increased power the Bush administration slid into the USA Patriot Act last year. Now that Democrats have caught onto this abuse of power (took them long enough), they want Alberto Gonzales fired immediately.
U.S. Attorneys are almost never dismissed. Since 1981, no more than three have ever been fired. In the last year, the administration has canned eight of them. All eight posed a threat to the administration in one form or another. For example, Carol Lam was the prosecutor against Republican Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham last year. She convicted him and he was sent to prison. Her reward was being fired by the Bush thugs. Another was fired for not speeding up an investigation of Democratic corruption before the mid-term elections.
This whole episode is yet another example of the Bush administration completely abusing the power. They want to break the law, but attorneys and judges keep getting in their way. Luckily for them, the Democrats are completely incompetent and do nothing while the administration rewrites the system.
The Democrats have had the blinders on for over six years now. They want Alberto fired, but it remains to be seen if they will do anything to that end. Gonzales is just the tip of the iceberg anyway. Karl Rove has also been linked to this scandal and you can be damn sure that Bush and Cheney know exactly what is going on. Alberto Gonzales should be fired and thrown directly in jail, but it should not stop there.
