Thursday, March 15, 2007 - 10:10am Republican Senator Calls For Gonzales' Head You know you're in trouble when a leading Republican comes out against you and calls for your dismissal. That's exactly what Senator John E. Sununu (R-NH) did yesterday by declaring that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales should be fired and that Bush should replace him as soon as possible. Sununu went on to say that "we need to have a strong, credible attorney general" and that "Gonzales can't fill that role."
Those are very strong words coming from a Republican Senator. John E. Sununu is the youngest Senator in office and has only been New Hampshire's Senator since 2003, but his family has direct ties to the Bushies. His father, John H. Sununu, was George H.W. Bush's Chief of Staff from 1989-1991.
For Sununu to come out against the Attorney General says a lot. However, it is just one Republican at the moment. Others must join him and the Democrats in removing Torture Boy as fast as possible. With any luck (fingers crossed), a few more Republicans will demand the AG's head and he'll resign before the weekend is out.
As of this writing, no other Republican has taken a stand and called for Alberto to be canned. Let's see if they're all stooges for the Bush administration of if they actually can think for themselves. I think it'll be the former.
