Friday, September 29, 2006 - 1:00am Senate Agrees to Allow Torture It is a sad day in America. The United States government has officially approved a bill to allow torture of prisoners. Only 34 Senators had enough balls to vote against the bill. Republicans and a number of Democrats voted for a bill that goes against all human decency. These feckless government representatives are now committing human rights violations.
Last week, John McCain, John Warner, and other Republicans were fighting the President on what was to be included in this bill. Unfortunately, their version was not much different from the administration. Both advocated torture of prisoners.
In addition to allowing torture of these prisoners, the bill also makes sure that the prisoners can never challenge their own detention. The U.S. government has basically said that they can capture, torture, and hold anybody they want for as long as they want. Tribunals will be set up, but they are a joke at best. Among other things, they allow evidence through coercion to be included. You may as well be tried in China.
The interesting part is that the CIA and the people in the field do not want to torture anybody. These agents actually realize that torture isn't even effective. Prisoners tell you what you want to hear and the information gathered is useless. Unfortunately, the administration and the higher-ups are pushing these agents to abuse these prisoners.
This bill is expected to be signed into law by President Bush. Make no mistake, it is an embarrassment and disgrace to us all.
The American government is officially one of the bad guys. Political Critic - political blogs, conservatives, vlog, liberals, democrats, republicans, video blog, political opinion. |
