The
most well known ballet company is the American Ballet
Theatre. Located in New York City, the company has
existed for nearly seventy years. Surprisingly, the
American Ballet Theatre has had only a small number of
artistic directors. The current director is Kevin
McKenzie, but Mikhail Baryshnikov is probably the most
famous. The 2009 American Ballet Theatre calendar
features a number of current ballet dancers, including Julie
Kent and Marcelo Gomes. The company now works out of
the Metropolitan Opera House and has four different levels
of hierarchy. The highest level is 'Principals'.
