Born in
New York in 1860 as Anna Mary Robertson, Grandma Moses
became one of the great American folk artists. She
married Thomas Moses when she was 27 years old. She
got the nickname because she did not start painting until
she was in her seventies. It wasn't until 1938 that
her paintings were discovered in a drugstore window.
These 2009 Lang Folk Art Moses calendars show the paintings that
she created in the 1930's and 1940's. Grandma Moses
lived a long and fruitful life and these 2009 calendars are a
testament to her talent. She surpassed her 100th
birthday on September 7, 1960. For her birthday, she
was featured on the cover of Life Magazine. A little
more than one year later, she passed away. It was
December, 1961. |
