The
origin of the tree hugger phrase comes from the Chipko
movement, which was a protest from a group in India about
commercial logging. In order to prevent the trees from
getting chopped down, these people would literally hug them.
Thus gave rise to the term Tree Hugger. These Tree
Hugger t-shirts show that you are a proud environmentalist
and would do the same if necessary. The Chipko
movement began in the spring of 1973 and spread to different
regions during the 1970's. As these t-shirts show, the
tree hugger movement has made its way to the United States.
